Rachel Kessi and Ian Mwaisunga - Muda Africa - African story telling through contemporary dance.

Muda Africa is a non-governmental organization dedicated to the creative sector's role in fostering social, cultural, and economic progress for Tanzanian youth. They emphasize contemporary dance as a means to develop creativity, trust, cooperation, discipline, and adaptability. Founded in 2013, Muda Africa combines modern urban African culture with traditional knowledge, aiming to shape a future grounded in both past and present.

The core values of Muda Africa are Artistic Excellence, Trust, Discipline, Curiosity and Experimentation, Team Spirit and Collaboration, Passion and Determination, and Lifelong Learning. These core values collectively define Muda Africa's approach, creating a nurturing and dynamic environment where creativity and personal growth can flourish.

Artistic Director, Ian Mwaisunga:

Ian Mwaisunga, with 24 years of experience, connects ancestral wisdom with contemporary ideas through dance. He has performed internationally and co-founded several dance initiatives, including Tanzania's first contemporary dance company and festival. He has been instrumental in founding Muda Africa and serves as an advisor to the National Arts Council of Tanzania.

Co-Founder, Rachel Kessi:

Rachel, with over 21 years of experience in visual and performing arts in East Africa, co-founded Muda Africa and handles strategic planning, finance, and administration. She has promoted East African artists, published art books, and set up commercial outlets for handicrafts. Rachel has served on the boards of various Tanzanian non-profits and currently lives in Dar es Salaam.
