Michael Judkins on Writing, Film, and Changing Lives Through Art
I recently had the pleasure of conducting an online interview with Michael Judkins, an accomplished author, film producer, and screenwriter from the Lehigh Valley area of Pennsylvania. During our conversation, Michael opened up about his creative journey, which began with a strong passion for poetry. He shared how, at a young age, a teacher recognized his natural talent for writing and encouraged him to nurture it. Poetry became a powerful outlet for Michael to express himself, and his early works were eventually published by Barnes and Noble.
It was through writing poetry that Michael’s interest in film and screenwriting began to take shape. He believes deeply in the power of connection and collaboration, and he surrounds himself with people he can learn from. Eager to grow, he challenged himself to gain firsthand experience in the film industry, developing his skills by working directly in the field.
We also discussed his latest film, A Familiar Face. The story follows Troy and his family, the Davis family, as they relocate to a new town. As Troy begins at his new school, he is taken aback when a student in a higher grade insists that they are related. This tension escalates into a physical confrontation when Troy finally meets William, leading both boys to the principal's office. In that pivotal moment, truths and secrets come to light as Troy’s father, John, is forced to confront his past. Through John’s missteps, Troy gains a meaningful lesson about forgiveness and healing.
Michael’s approach to storytelling is rooted in creating narratives that reach, teach, and empower. With over ten years of experience in the creative industry as an independent Creative Director, Screenwriter, Writer, and Content Creator, he brings a unique voice to every project. A dedicated Mental Health Advocate, Michael believes that art has the power to transform lives. He holds an Associate of Science in Journalism, a Bachelor of Science in Human Services, and a Master of Science in Mental Health Counselling.
