Colonel Tony Smit - The Spitfire restoration Project in South Africa

"After 41 years in the game, well I think I've had the most fantastic flying career anybody could have had. I'm very lucky," says Colonel Tony Smit who is leading the Spitfire restoration project in South Africa. He is talking about the process of the restoration and the people involved. At the moment they are still building the hanger where the restoration will be done and this will then also be a suitable place for future restorations. Such initiatives should get our support as these historic planes are valuable for generations to come. Hear more about this wonderful project and also Tony's wishes for the future. At the age of 85, Tony is still flying everything from corporate jets to vintage aircraft and turbo props, with over 25000 flying hours on 230 aircraft types and he is also examiner for civil aviation. It was a privilege to talk to you Tony.
