Bohdan Shutka - The Ukrainian Bandura

“I have something here in my hands which can not be taken away from us” says Bandura player Bohdan Shutka. He tells the wonderful history of this traditional Ukrainian instrument and what inspired him to learn to play the bandura. Because this instrument is only played by a few musicians still, Bohdan makes use of old literature to understand what the composers intent was and also keep on practicing to understand the physics and mechanics of the instrument. There are still so much to discover about the bandura and Bohdan feels it’s a project for a lifetime. He is talking with so much pride about this instrument and I admire him for his dedication in spite of the difficulties he has to face to make people understand the beauty of the music written for the Bandura. Hear more about this very unique instrument and Bohdan’s wishes for the future
