Arno Morland: Art is a vehicle for the unconscious part of the mind to express itself.

Arno Morland, born in South Africa, embarked on a diverse and dynamic artistic journey. After completing his schooling, he served a year of military service, which was a formative experience. He then delved into higher education, studying Psychology, Philosophy, and Theology. These academic pursuits led him to the University of Johannesburg and the University of Pretoria, where he earned his degrees.

Driven by a burgeoning interest in the arts, Morland began taking courses in painting and Art history. His dedication and talent soon bore fruit, and in 1999, he held his first solo exhibition. This milestone marked the beginning of a prolific period in his career, characterized by a series of solo and group exhibitions that established his presence in the art world. In 2003, seeking to deepen his artistic expertise, Morland enrolled in an MFA program at the University of the Witwatersrand, completing it two years later.

Morland’s artistic journey then took him to the United States. Here, he engaged in various design-related activities, broadening his creative horizons. After several years, he reignited his passion for painting, showcasing his work in Chicago. This period of exploration and growth was followed by a move to the United Kingdom. In the UK, Morland continued to develop his painting while also venturing into sculpture, adding a new dimension to his artistic repertoire.

In 2018, Morland returned to his native South Africa, bringing with him a wealth of experience and a renewed creative vigor. Since his return, he has actively participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions, further solidifying his reputation in the South African art scene. His interest in sculpture has continued to grow, and it now stands as the main focus of his creative endeavors. Morland’s work in sculpture is marked by a deep engagement with form and material, reflecting his ongoing evolution as an artist.

Currently, Arno Morland lives and works near Cape Town, South Africa. His studio, nestled in the vibrant cultural landscape of the region, is a testament to his enduring commitment to artistic exploration and innovation. As he continues to push the boundaries of his creative practice, Morland remains a significant and influential figure in contemporary art.
