My Journal

We all have to start somewhere, doesn’t matter what it is we do, and every start is the beginning of a process that we can never predict. I am writing about how I started photography, the initial inspiration and encouragement by my friend George, and the on-going learning process, by just doing.

When in a Palace ....

Every photoshoot brings something new and exciting with unexpected lovely surprises.

I met with Marelize Gerber and her sweet Daschhund, Mimi over coffee to discuss a possible photoshoot for her portfolio and new website.

Marelize decided on the designs of Maurizio Giambra for her photoshoot.  What a lovely man with the most gorgeous designs.  Such an interesting variety of different designs and so difficult to choose only a few.

I was also grateful to be able to have jewellery from Mazbani Fine Jewellery for Marelize to wear at her shoot.  Such elegant pieces and complimented each design perfectly.

I fell in love with this Lilac/pink dress with the lovely silver bow on the side.  The fabric , absolutely gorgeous and the design so unique.  This was a statement dress and I thought it would work perfectly for Marlize’s style.  Besides this, it’s always good to try something different and something new. After all this is a photoshoot and a good reason to try something new.

This stunning gold and black design, with it’s perfect contrasts, both in colour and texture not only complimented Marlize’s figure but also in a way represents her style as an artist.  Marlize specialises in singing  Baroque music and I felt that the texture of the golden coloured fabric reminded me of the exuberance of the Baroque style. With the perfect hair-do and make-up by Romina Mereu and the stunning earrings from Mazbani Fine Jewellery, and also, I couldn’t have wished for a more suitable background, I can only say: “Picture Perfect”!   For me this is one of the most beautiful photograph of the shoot as it portrays a mood, a style, contrasts and sophistication.

Marelize look very elegant in this burgundy classic design.  The colour suited her perfectly and for the close-up shots, the collar of the dress gave it such a lovely classic look.

A dress that might not have been Marlize’s first choice brought some variety to the outfits she chose for her photoshoot. For me this dress shows a different side to Marlize and although it was not something she would have chosen for herself, it suited her very well and also showed a more glamorous side to her.  I thought the light caught the sequins on the dress in a perfect way and the contrasts of colour against the stone background,  and reflections of the light , makes this such an interesting photograph.

I wish we had more time to photograph Marelize in the beautiful white and floral dress.  Again the backdrop for this image could not have been more perfect.  The texture of the wall in contrast with the softness of the dress.  Sometimes the simplest of things works the best.

This was a wonderful photoshoot and I am thankful to the talented and enthusiastic photographer Lizelle de Wit for these beautiful images.  It is always great to work with Lizelle!

A big thank you to Romina Mereu for creating these gorgeous hair-do’s and doing the make-up so perfectly.  A perfectionist at work!
